For this month's challenge, we're kicking it oldschool with one of Taito's arcade classics, QIX; specifically, the version found on the original Game Boy. The challenge is simple, get the highest score you possibly can without cheats, of couse. Bonus points if you complete this challenge on the DMG-01, in all of it's puke-green, monochrome glory. Winners will receive site bragging rights for a month and eternal induction into the Wall of Fame. Send photos of your scores to PLACEHOLDER@email.com
Be sure to include the word "Challenge" in your e-mail subject or it might be missed by our underpaid interns when they tabulate the final scores.
Also, because we are so gracious here at, PiP, we've included a small collection of tips to help up your score. Enjoy and keep on gaming, gamers!
- 1. By pressing the B-Button you can activate a slow, moving line. When you complete a box with a slow line, your score is doubled.
- 2. The meter at the bottom should be closely monitored. If the meter is to run out, all Sparx in the level will become powered-up with increased speed and ass-kicking abilities.
- 3. Fuses only appear on your line if you take too long to draw a box, so hurry it up!
- 4. In levels where there are two QIX, try to split them apart with a single line. Doing so, will make one of them disappear and causes you to forfeit the end-of-round bonus. However it will also double your score in the next round. If you continue to split apart the two QIX you can eventually earn a multiplier that will increase your score by fivefold. Combine that with a high claiming percentage and you're rolling in the points, baby!
